Colby
Colby’s yoga journey began in elementary school when her grade 2 teacher led her and her class in kids’ yoga. She loved it right away and always looked forward to their peaceful Friday afternoons.
Fast forward to high school and her early 20s, Colby was a competitive cheer/tumbling coach and athlete. Although she loved this high-intensity sport for the better part of ten years, it eventually came to the point where she had to let it go.
Searching for a new way to keep active, Colby began weight lifting and HIIT training. Never really connecting with this style of workout, she found herself shifting towards bodyweight circuits and yoga-style workouts. She wanted to go to a “real” yoga class but always talked herself out of it.
Colby finally took her first yoga class at Yoga Union in 2020 and has loved learning about posture alignment and how low-impact movement could strengthen the body. As she continued practicing, Colby was amazed at how the practice of yoga could transcend the physical. Since then, yoga has brought Colby less physical pain and a sense of connection to self and others.
In 2023, Colby completed both her 200hr Yoga Teacher Training and 50hr Yin Training and has been able to bring her yoga journey full circle by teaching her own grade 2 students kids yoga on Friday afternoons. Going forward, she is looking forward to exploring even more lineages and diving deeper into the subtle elements of yoga.
